Workshop: Queer Sound w/ Zosia Holubowska

Zosia Hołubowska will lead a workshop on experimenting with sound from a queer perspective. It will address issues like improvisation, collectivity, body and budget options. The workshop will present some very cheap or free options to get unexpected results and refer to the work of queer sound artist. We will make deep listening exercises and talk about composition strategies but there will be lots of technical issues explained as we go along (the difference between analog and digital, audio and midi, processing audio signal and interfering with single wave cycles). We will also explore sound processing by doing all the things you are not supposed to do in music production.

BIO

Zosia Hołubowska is a non-binary sound artist, musician, and music activist. As a founder of Sounds Queer? they have been organizing and facilitating workshops on synthesizers since 2014. They share their time between performing as a curvy synth witch Mala Herba, promoting femmes and non-binary artists in electronic music as a member of Oramics, and working on their Ph.D. thesis at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, exploring the idea of queer sound.
