Aida Arko is an electronic music producer and DJ based in Vienna, Austria, specializing in Techno. She established her sound signature as a new wave of hard edge driving techno with a seemingly unusual drone attraction, leaning on a dark percussive industrial tribalesque groove that grinds its why through the airiness of experimental sound scapes.
In this workshop we would like to share a few tips and tricks with you, in order to amplify your approach on producing electronic dance music and execute a track from start to finish.
Build healthy studio habits, get out of loops and creative blocks as well as focusing on your lower end, which plays a crucial role for club music.
Also we will be having a Q&A on how to put demos together and send them out to labels.
The workshop will be in English, on Jitsi platform.
We ask for 8-10€ as a donation and we have two free social spots.
To register, send an e-mail to soundsqueervienna@gmail.com or fill this form.
Refund policy: We don’t do refunds, as we are a voluntary based collective and all the money goes towards the artists.
This workshop includes an introduction to the life and work of composer, performer and humanitarian Pauline Oliveros, a pioneer of electronic music who created the term “Deep Listening”, a practice of radical attentiveness to sound. Oliveros described Deep Listening as “a practice that is intended to heighten and expand consciousness of sound in as many dimensions of awareness and attentional dynamics as humanly possible”.
Often called grande-dame of American Minimalism Oliveros created her “Sonic Meditations” in 1974, a text score to help practitioners make sounds, imagine sounds, listen to, and remember sounds.
Following Oliveros’ instructions we will find out how her practice of Deep Listening might connect us virtually and attempt those meditations that can be performed in a virtual space i.e. “Pacific Tell” or “Telepathic Improvisation”.
The workshop will be in English, on Jitsi platform.
This workshop is free!

Which language can I use to communicate my artistic approach to the funding party? How do I organize a funding application process so I won’t lose my mind the day before the deadline? The workshop is an open discussion in which we’ll pool our knowledge about, and exchange our experiences with, different sorts of public money and strategies of how to get them.

***Gentle Together***
Collective sound exhibition by Sounds Queer? and workshop participants
“Gentle Together” is combining collective effort to queer up sound art, create a safer space for vulnerability, making mistakes, and deep listening. We propose to approach queer sound not from the perspective of defined sonic characteristics, but rather to open up a discussion on how to work with the sound in a queer way. There should be no one answer to the posed questions, and we are interested in polyphony, meaning many narratives and many stories, creating spaces of tension and exchange.
The Sounds Queer? collective exhibition consists of three elements: a room dedicated to electronic music pioneers, an interactive soundscape made out of workshop try-outs, and a synthesizer picnic for the visitors to play with.
The fragile soundscape created from workshop try-outs is gently nestled in the space corners, responding to your moves. Welcome to the sound picnic. You can rest among synthesizers and their blinking lights. You can try things out, make mistakes and try again. The interactive exhibition embraces all odd, whimsical, and undefined sounds and creates a space to listen, be vulnerable, and curious.
Sounds Queer? is: Zosia Hołubowska, Violeta Gil Martinez, Tony Wagner, Adele Knall
Sounds Queer? is a Vienna-based collective working on the intersection of electronic music, sound art, and queer activism. We share knowledge and tools because we believe that music can create a safer space to exchange experiences and express yourself. A synthesizer can be a feminist spaceship to challenge not only rules in music but also social norms. We organize workshops, collective jams, performances, and shows.
This workshop is thought of as a conversation, where we can share our secret tips with each other about how we move our compositions forward. Violeta aka Matte/Glossy will show different creative processes regarding music and lyrics with inspirations from Zadie Smith, Kenneth Goldsmith, Aldous Harding, etc. Every person and every song is different but there are many tips and methods out there that can help us to move a composition forward and overcome creative blockades. We will listen to some of Violeta’s compositions, finished and in-process to see how a song can evolve in many ways and all are right.
The workshop will be in English, on Jitsi platform.
We ask for 10-15€ as a donation and we have two free social spots.
To register, send an e-mail to soundsqueervienna@gmail.com or fill this form.

Behind Matte/Glossy hides Violeta, a former punk singer with classical vocal training. She writes and produces in her Viennese bedroom and is finishing her first LP. In the past, she has sung and composed in several bands (Las Cruces, Primer Premio) and has played in venues in Spain, Austria, Czech Republic and Italy. As an autodidact music producer, curiosity is the driving force for her, along with the promotion of knowledge and hands-on approaches being the best ways to learn.

What is mastering? Starting with a brief historical overview that looks at how the job of mastering has changed from the era of vinyl, through CDs and digital streaming, this workshop walks participants through basic mastering equipment and studio setups, and common issues and best practices for production, based on our own experience in mastering.
Together we will look at converters, volume control, understanding meters such as DbFS, Peak RMS, Loudness, and the importance of understanding your monitoring situation and treating your studio space. We will also go through a few examples and offer tips based on our own mastering work, pointing out common issues in tracks that we receive from artists, and identifying which ones you might be able to handle yourself versus those that are best left to the mastering engineer.

Schritt 1: Was benötige ich?
Rack, Module, Patchkabel
Schritt 2: Wie kann ich einen Ton oder Sound erzeugen und diesen verändern?
VCO, VCA, White Noise, Filter, LFO
